class=\"gallery-item-slider-arrows\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Un equipo formado por enxe\u00f1eiras e enxe\u00f1eiros espa\u00f1ois e brit\u00e1nicos e liderado polas universidades de Vigo, Oviedo e Leicester (Reino Unido) realizou con \u00e9xito as primeiras probas de integraci\u00f3n dun sistema h\u00edbrido que combina enerx\u00eda solar e fontes nucleares de calor para alimentar futuras misi\u00f3ns espaciais. Este novo sistema promete ampliar, segundo indican os seus responsables, a vida \u00fatil e o alcance das misi\u00f3ns de ciencia planetaria nas que as fontes de enerx\u00eda tradicionais vense limitadas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta colaboraci\u00f3n internacional enm\u00e1rcase nun proxecto financiado pola Axencia Espacial Europea (ESA), que pretende dar soluci\u00f3n aos problemas de subministraci\u00f3n de enerx\u00eda aos que se enfrontan as misi\u00f3ns en contornas extremas, como as superficies da L\u00faa e Marte. Por parte da Universidade de Vigo participan na iniciativa desde o Aerospace Technology Researchd Group (ATRG), atlanTTic e a Escola de Enxe\u00f1ar\u00eda Aeron\u00e1utica e do Espazo do campus de Ourense Carlos Ulloa, Ferm\u00edn Navarro e Ux\u00eda Garc\u00eda. As probas que agora concl\u00faen con \u00e9xito tiveron lugar no Space Park de Leicester, xunto coa empresa spin-off da Universidade de Leicester Perpetual Atomics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sistemas de enerx\u00eda RTG-solar&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>O proxecto, explican desde a s\u00faa organizaci\u00f3n, agrupa a experiencia do Reino Unido en xeradores termoel\u00e9ctricos de radiois\u00f3topos (RTGs), a da Universidade de Oviedo en electr\u00f3nica de potencia e a da Universidade de Vigo en simulaci\u00f3ns t\u00e9rmicas da contorna espacial. A confluencia deste co\u00f1ecemento permite o desenvolvemento desta base para a pr\u00f3xima xeraci\u00f3n de sistemas de enerx\u00eda h\u00edbridos RTG-solar. \u201cEstamos a combinar o mellor de cada tecnolox\u00eda para asegurar que as misi\u00f3ns poidan operar durante m\u00e1is tempo e en condici\u00f3ns moito m\u00e1is esixentes\u201d, comenta Pablo Fern\u00e1ndez, profesor da Universidad de Oviedo, que participa na iniciativa a trav\u00e9s do grupo de Sistemas Electr\u00f3nicos de Alimentaci\u00f3n (SEA).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O equipo de investigaci\u00f3n explica que a enerx\u00eda solar \u00e9 a habitual en aplicaci\u00f3ns espaciais pero a s\u00faa dispo\u00f1ibilidade dimin\u00fae significativamente a medida que as misi\u00f3ns espaciais se expanden cara contornas m\u00e1is esixentes do sistema solar. Como exemplo citan as misi\u00f3ns lunares, que deben soportar a ausencia de luz solar durante noites cunha duraci\u00f3n de 14 d\u00edas terrestres. Pola contra, engaden, os xeradores termoel\u00e9ctricos de radiois\u00f3topos (RTGs) utilizan radiois\u00f3topos, que son \u00e1tomos inestables que liberan enerx\u00eda en forma de calor de maneira continua e durante longos per\u00edodos de tempo. Esa calor transf\u00f3rmase en electricidade, o que permite dispor dunha fonte enerx\u00e9tica constante incluso cando non hai luz solar. As\u00ed, detallan as e os investigadores, os RTG baseados en Americio-241 proporcionan calor e enerx\u00eda constantes durante d\u00e9cadas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A arquitectura h\u00edbrida RTG-solar probada agora con \u00e9xito utiliza un sistema de xesti\u00f3n de enerx\u00eda el\u00e9ctrica, desenvolvido polo grupo SEA, que permite combinar ambas fontes de enerx\u00eda segundo sexa necesario, o que conleva distintas vantaxes. Entre elas, o equipo investigador citan que o sistema maximiza a xeraci\u00f3n de potencia nos per\u00edodos de m\u00e1xima iluminaci\u00f3n utilizando a enerx\u00eda solar dispo\u00f1ible; que o sistema mant\u00e9n as operaci\u00f3ns e garante a supervivencia durante a noite lunar aproveitando a enerx\u00eda constante do RTG e que se reduce a masa total do sistema ao optimizar o equilibrio entre enerx\u00eda solar e nuclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sobre a participaci\u00f3n do equipo da UVigo no proxecto, Carlos Ulloa explica que mediante o uso de ferramentas de simulaci\u00f3n avanzada lograron que o xerador non s\u00f3 aporte electricidade, sen\u00f3n que se integre activamente no control t\u00e9rmico do rover (o veh\u00edculo da misi\u00f3n), asegurando o seu funcionamento nas condici\u00f3ns m\u00e1is host\u00eds. \u201cPara que un rover sobreviva ao polo sur lunar e aos seus -173\u00b0C, dese\u00f1amos un sistema que fusiona o control t\u00e9rmico e o el\u00e9ctrico nun s\u00f3 modelo din\u00e1mico\u201d, detalla o investigador. Este traballo apoiouse en d\u00faas ferramentas de simulaci\u00f3n avanzada clave: ESATAN, que calcula con precisi\u00f3n como a calor se radia entre o veh\u00edculo e o terreo lunar, e EcoSimpro, que simula o &#8220;coraz\u00f3n&#8221; do rover para analizar como responde o seu sistema de enerx\u00eda ante cada cambio brusco de temperatura. A calor residual do xerador de radiois\u00f3topos (RTG), sinala o equipo da UVigo, util\u00edzase para manter a salvo as bater\u00edas e a electr\u00f3nica durante a noite lunar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Un logro conxunto&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Facendo valoraci\u00f3n do avance acadado, Carlos Ulloa subli\u00f1a que \u201ca colaboraci\u00f3n internacional \u00e9 o combustible do descubrimento espacial moderno. Este logro conxunto entre Espa\u00f1a e o Reino Unido non s\u00f3 reforza os nosos lazos bilaterais, sen\u00f3n que tam\u00e9n proporciona \u00e1 comunidade cient\u00edfica mundial unha soluci\u00f3n enerx\u00e9tica probada e escalable\u201d. Pola s\u00faa banda, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Fern\u00e1ndez, doutorando do equipo asturiano destinado na Universidade de Leicester, sinala que \u201ceste tipo de sistemas h\u00edbridos abre a porta a misi\u00f3ns m\u00e1is ambiciosas, capaces de operar en contornas onde ata agora era inviable manter actividade cient\u00edfica continua. Poder vir ao Space Park de Leicester a probar os sistemas desenvolvidos na Universidad de Oviedo \u00e9 unha oportunidade excepcional\u201d. Por \u00faltimo, o doutor Ramy Mesalam, investigador principal do equipo da Universidade de Leicester, afirma que \u201ccon esta campa\u00f1a de probas, o desenvolvemento de RTGs baseados en Americio avanza. O \u00e9xito desta proba achanda o cami\u00f1o para seguir desenvolvendo a tecnolox\u00eda e aplicala directamente a futuras misi\u00f3ns. Esta colaboraci\u00f3n demostra que o futuro da exploraci\u00f3n espacial non consiste en elixir entre enerx\u00eda solar ou nuclear, sen\u00f3n na combinaci\u00f3n intelixente de
