Mónica Fernández Barciela graduated in Physical Sciences (electronics) from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1989, and obtained her PhD in Telecommunication Engineering in 1996 from the University of Vigo. Since 1997, she has been a Full Professor at the University of Vigo. Between 1992-1994, she did various research stays at the IAF Fraunhofer-Institut in Freiburg (Germany). Her main research areas include modeling and characterization of linear/non-linear active microwave and millimeter-wave devices, design of hybrid and monolithic integrated microwave circuits for communications. She has been the principal investigator in 7 national projects/subprojects, as well as regional projects and collaborations with Spanish and international companies. She participated in the NoE TARGET (VI Framework Programme EU) and co-supervised 5 doctoral theses. Currently, she serves as the president of the Spanish Joint Chapter of IEEE corresponding to the MTT-S and AP-S societies
