Roberto López Valcarce is a Telecommunications Engineer from the University of Vigo (1995) and earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Iowa, USA (2000). From 2001 to 2006, he held a ‘Ramón y Cajal’ contract from the Ministry of Science and Technology in the Department of Signal Theory and Communications at the University of Vigo, where he is currently an Associate Professor. His research focuses on signal processing applied to digital communications and sensor networks, including aspects such as spectral sensing, channel estimation, compressed sensing, full-duplex communications, digital predistortion, and distributed processing. He is a co-author of over 50 articles in top-tier international journals and a co-inventor on several patents in exploitation developed in collaboration with private companies. He received the 2005 Best Paper Award from the IEEE Signal Processing Society, as well as the 2007 Galicia Research Award from the Department of Innovation and Industry of the Xunta de Galicia in the “new researchers” category. From 2008 to 2011, he served as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing journal, and he was an elected member of the IEEE Signal Processing for Communications and Networking Technical Committee from 2011 to 2013.
