Julio Martín Ferreiro is a Telecommunications Engineer from Vigo, Spain, and holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Vigo and another Ph.D. in Signal and Image Processing from Bordeaux. He has undertaken long stays at various institutions including the University of the South Pacific (Fiji), Universidad Nacional Mayor San Marcos de Lima (Peru), Université Bordeaux I (France), The University of Western Australia, Curtin University of Technology, and Edith Cowan University (Australia). He has participated in two Antarctic expeditions with the Portuguese Polar Program (PROPOLAR), the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH), and the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI).
Currently, he is an independent researcher within atlanTTic. He has published around twenty JCR-cited articles, with citations in the hundreds, and serves as a reviewer for around twenty JCR journals. He is the author or co-author of four patents. His research lines include, among others, the integration of hyperspectral imaging systems, their processing, and applications, computer vision, spatial analysis, and algorithmic optimization. He maintains international collaborations in environmental remote sensing and precision viticulture and frequently contracts with industry for process automation and optimization, including computer vision, robotics, and control systems with high-speed and complexity requirements. He is a co-founder of the spin-off Sound of Numbers, a company dedicated to the development of advanced software for acoustic engineering, with current representation in 47 countries.
