Engineer in Telecommunications (1993) and Ph.D. in Engineering (1999), both degrees awarded by the University of Vigo. He has been a professor at the School of Telecommunications Engineering of the University of Vigo since 1995 (previously he was a professor at the Faculty of Computer Science of A Coruña). Currently, he is an Associate Professor. During his professional career, he conducted a research stay at the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) in Maryland (USA) in 1997. As a result of his research activity, he has participated in seven publicly funded projects (University, Regional Government, European Commission) and in seventeen technology transfer actions (projects with companies). Regarding the topics of the projects carried out, the majority focus on image processing (image analysis and computer vision), although there are also projects related to data networks and telephony. He has published 8 articles in international journals, another 30 articles in international conferences, and 37 articles in national conferences.
