The 3DBigDataSpace project aims to significantly expand the number of high-quality 3D contents for cultural heritage by aggregating material from various providers and aggregators, in order to establish stable and long-term storage across Europe.
This project involves the use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance content searchability, contextualization, and personalized reuse, as well as to automatically process, analyze, and enrich 3D models.
Specifically, it will enable heritage and tourism companies, as well as cultural institutions, to use the tools and workflows developed within 3DBigDataSpace to upload 3D content. This will allow its use as an inventory for virtual/augmented reality viewers and 4D applications, taking advantage of the geolocation capabilities available in current mobile devices.
In addition, these models will be enriched with embedded descriptors that provide contextual information about the visible elements, applying rendering performance enhancement techniques that enable faster loading.
The system’s design will be accompanied by testing scenarios in museums, heritage routes, and local trails, as well as educational and outreach activities, offering opportunities for many individuals and institutions to participate in and benefit from the results of 3DBigDataSpace.
