He received the degree of Telecommunications Engineer in June 1992 from the University of Vigo and the title of Ph.D. in Telecommunications Engineering in December 2001 from the Department of Signal Theory and Communications at the same university. From 1992 to 1994, he worked as a project engineer in the mentioned department. In 1994, he was hired as an associate professor, and he held this position until 2008 when he obtained the position of Assistant Professor, which he currently holds. His research lines fall within the field of signal processing. He initially specialized in real-time signal processing and signal processing architectures (DSPs). Later, he shifted his research to the area of speech processing, particularly in the field of automatic speech recognition, which was the subject of his doctoral thesis. Currently, his research interests also include the automatic detection and classification of sounds from underwater recordings.
