Telecommunications Engineer from the University of Vigo (1995). Subsequently, he pursued a two-year doctoral program at the Department of Signal Theory and Communications at this university. He spent a year on a training program at Siemens AG in Berlin, in the Public Communication Networks Department, conducting tests on WDM SLA 16 optical switching systems. After this internship and completing the doctoral courses, he built a professional career spanning 16 years in various ICT sector companies such as Vodafone, Movistar, and engineering firms dedicated to radio communication and fiber optic deployment projects. In parallel, he initiated research activities in the field of nonlinear optics and optical solitons. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2009 and became an Associate Professor at the University of Vigo in 2012. Currently, he is a Full Professor, and his research focuses on optical solitons and integrated photonics applied to telecommunications and quantum technologies. He has supervised over thirty-five undergraduate theses and is currently supervising three doctoral theses in the field of integrated photonics.

He serves as a technological advisor for the Xunta de Galicia, regional director for the European Satellite, and a trainer/advisor for significant companies in photonics. He is involved in two European Union projects on new approaches and innovation actions in training programs at universities (EDIFY and DRIVE-In, MSCA-ITN-EID). Additionally, he supervises more than 40 students and eleven Ph.D. students.
