Carmen García Mateo earned her Ph.D. and Telecommunications Engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1993 and 1987, respectively. She is the lead researcher of the Multimedia Technologies Research Group (GTM) at the atlanTTic research center of the University of Vigo. Since 1987, she has been a professor at the University of Vigo, currently holding the position of Full Professor in the Department of Signal Theory and Communications. From June 2006 to June 2010, she served as the Vice-Rector for Degrees and European Convergence at the University of Vigo, with responsibilities in implementing degree and master’s programs adapted to the European Higher Education Area. Carmen García Mateo was a visiting researcher at California University-Santa Barbara (1994), Bell Labs (1997 and 1999), Michigan State University (2005), and the University of Canterbury (UK, 2013). She chaired FALA2010: “VI Speech Technology Workshop” and the “II Iberian SLTech Workshop.” She received the “2014 Xunta de Galicia- Maria Josefa Wonenburger” award for her professional career. Currently, she coordinates the doctoral program in Information and Communication Technologies at the University of Vigo. Her research areas include speech technology in Galician and Spanish, audio segmentation, and biometric person recognition. Carmen García Mateo is a co-author of over 100 articles in international journals and conferences and has supervised 10 doctoral theses.
