Invited lecture during the PhD Programme on Information and Communication Technologies (DocTIC) Annual Evaluation Day 2026
Title: ‘From Networks We Build to Networks That Understand, Reason, and Adapt’
Invited speaker: Rui Lopes Campos, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto; Senior Researcher at INESC TEC (biography).
Date: Wednesday, June 10, 2026
Time: 12:00-13:00
Location: Salón de Actos – E.E. de Telecomunicación, Universidade de Vigo
Lecture summary:
In this talk, I will discuss emerging paradigms for wireless connectivity in extreme environments, grounded on more than a decade of research developed at the University of Porto and INESC TEC. The talk will explore how autonomous mobile networks, supported by robotic aerial and maritime platforms, can dynamically create and adapt communications infrastructures in scenarios where traditional networks are unavailable, damaged, or insufficient, while addressing the convergence of wireless communications, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Particular emphasis will be given to semantic communications and the transition from bit-oriented networking towards systems capable of understanding the context and relevance of information, paving the way for more adaptive, resilient, and mission-oriented communication systems.
